Common Questions About Norlake

Why choose a Norlake walk-in?

Norlake walk-in freezers and refrigerators are premade, easy-to-install alternatives to expensive custom walk-ins. Norlake walk-in coolers are made for simplicity, with some not even requiring an electrician or plumber to install. These self-contained walk-in coolers and freezers are exceptionally easy to service because many components are accessible from inside the walk-in, rather than mounted high where the serviceperson must climb. Norlake walk-in coolers have unique Capsule Pak™ condensers—which we'll explain below—to help them maintain appropriate refrigerating and freezing temperatures without freezing over. This line of walk-ins includes outdoor models that can endure the elements while providing copious cold storage and tamper-resistant features.

What is a Capsule Pak?

Capsule Pak is Norlake's proprietary condenser unit for indoor and outdoor walk-ins. These systems have a number of beneficial features that set them apart from the competition, including:

  • Electronic controllers that enhance reliability and safety
  • Flush coils that keep all components inside the Capsule Pak, instead of occupying walk-in space
  • Ceiling mounting that improves security
  • Cord and plug electrical connections that simplify installation

Some Norlake products offer a Split Pak™ condenser, which has the same quality construction as the Capsule Pak but in a remote compressor. This means the compressor will be located on the outside of your building, either on the wall or the roof, and will vent heated air there instead of in your storage area. This can be beneficial, as it reduces heat and noise inside, but it's more difficult to install and can be more expensive initially.
