Common Questions About Rancilio
Where is Rancilio made?
All Rancilio machines are made in Italy. The company prides itself on its Italian heritage, as Italy is where both espresso and the expresso machine were invented. Rancilio was founded in Parabiago, Italy, and is now headquartered outside of Milan.
How do I clean my Rancilio grinder?
Before cleaning, the grinder should be turned off and unplugged. The exterior should be cleaned daily by wiping the outside of the grinder and the dosing area under the coffee container with a damp cloth or sponge. Every few days, the coffee bean and ground coffee containers should be removed, cleaned with a mild soap solution, and rinsed thoroughly. This process will remove any coffee residue, which can become stale and even rancid over time.
What is the difference between semi-automatic, fully automatic, and super-automatic?
Semi-automatic espresso machines require that the user grind and tamp the coffee. After the portafilter is attached, the machine takes over and determines the pressure at which water is pushed through the beans. At that point, the only aspect the user controls is when to stop the flow of water.
Fully automatic espresso machines, also called automatic espresso machines, are very similar to semi-automatics. In a fully automatic machine, the user grinds and tamps the coffee, but the machine also controls how long to push water through. This is the most common choice for coffee houses, as it enables baristas to multitask.
Super-automatic espresso machines do everything from grinding and dosing the espresso to handling the water pressure and deciding the length of the shot pull.
