Bunn: What You Need to Know
Bunn makes a wide array of drink-dispensing products, focusing on producing commercial quantities of hot, fresh coffee. Americans drink lots of coffee, and any business that provides breakfast of any sort should offer coffee alongside it – good coffee, if you're going to make a profit. Making coffee and tea at home isn't expensive, so if the hot cup you're offering isn't better than what the customer can make before they leave in the morning, you might not sell any. Bunn commercial coffee makers excel at producing high-quality coffee with minimal operator effort, so you can serve large volumes without investing too much time.
Bunn commercial units come in a variety of styles and volumes so every operator can find the perfect machine for their foodservice and hospitality needs. Coffee pots designed for residential use are also available for those who want to bring the quality and consistency of a Bunn machine to their own kitchen.
Common Questions About Bunn
What is Bunn?
Bunn-O-Matic Corporation has been making high-quality coffee and tea dispensers since 1957 and has grown into one of the most trusted brands in the industry. The Bunn-O-Matic name comes from Bunn's original automatic coffee maker, and the convenience of automatic coffee is a constant throughout the rest of the company's portfolio. Bunn's collection of drink dispensers now covers a much wider array of potential uses than the original models did, but the company maintains the same dedication to quality that it always has.
What products does Bunn offer?
From Bunn commercial coffee machines and dispensers to carafes and airpots, our Bunn category carries the equipment you might need to serve up commercial quantities of quality coffee. Not all of these dispensers are designed for coffee, though. Precise-temperature water dispensers enable your guests to make themselves a cup of tea or anything else that requires hot water. Coffee grinders give you the ability to produce fresh grounds from whole beans, which creates a better flavor than using pre-ground beans. Thermal and airpot coffee systems are great for making coffee and keeping large quantities at an ideal temperature throughout the course of service. You can also move airpots to convenient serving locations and speed up your overall service. Bunn restaurant coffee makers come as single-cup pod brewers, as well, which makes them perfect for self-serve situations or as residential coffee machines.
We also carry specialty Bunn drink dispensers, which include frozen drink machines, gourmet juice systems, and even refrigerated coffee dispensers for iced coffee and other specialty drinks. Some Bunn coffee makers require professional installation to be connected to your building's utilities, but this category covers the flat rates of those installations, as well.
What's the difference between automatic and pourover Bunn commercial brewers?
Bunn's coffee decanter brewers come in two configurations:
- Pourover Bunn commercial coffee makers are ideal for operations that don't have a direct water line. To initiate the brewing process, operators manually pour cold water into the brewer and then wait for delicious Bunn coffee to brew.
- Automatic Bunn commercial coffee units are best for operations that have an available water source because they can be directly connected to it, eliminating the need for employees to pour water into Bunn brewers themselves. Automatic configurations brew coffee with the push of a button ¬– a self-sufficient option that's optimal for high-volume businesses. These units can be reset for manual pouring, and configurations with multiple warmers are available.
How do you fill a Bunn commercial coffee maker for the first time?
Bunn's BT, BX, GR, NHS, and ST velocity brew models require you follow a specific set of steps before making Bunn coffee. The Bunn commercial brewer must remain unplugged until each step has been completed. First, place the empty brew funnel into the funnel guide, then slide or lift the brewer lid. After filling a carafe with filtered water, pour it into the brewer. The carafe should be placed on the base beneath the brew funnel. It will take about three minutes for water to partially fill the tank, and the process should be repeated until the tank is full. When water flows from the brew funnel, the tank is full, so be sure to replace the carafe after each fill. Finish by closing the lid, plugging in the brewer, and pressing the switch to the on position.
How much water do I put in my Bunn coffee maker?
When filling Bunn brewers for the first time, it will take about two carafes of water to fill the holding tank, but when it comes to brewing, 4 to 10 cups of water will suffice.
How do you make coffee in a Bunn machine?
Brewing in a Bunn commercial coffee maker is a straightforward process that streamlines large volumes of production. The first step to making Bunn coffee is putting a coffee filter in the brew basket, followed by placing the desired amount of coffee in the filter—grounds should be leveled for a more even brew. Slide the brew funnel in the filter guide and open the lid. Fill the carafe with water, and then pour that water into the brewer. Unless you're using a BT or ST model, switch on the warmer, and close the lid to start the brew.
Can Bunn frozen drink dispensers be used to freeze drinks with alcohol in them?
Yes, frozen drink dispensers manufactured by Bunn may be capable of freezing beverages containing alcohol with high Brix values. For best results, you should follow the instructions on the syrup mixer you use. If you intend to use these units for that purpose, you should contact one of our customer care representatives for help finding the right machine for your application. Additionally, you should ensure there are no local laws prohibiting the use of these machines for alcoholic beverages in your establishment.
Can I use a Bunn commercial brewer in my home?
Commercial Bunn brewers should not be used for residential applications. These Bunn units are designed for environments where they will receive higher cyclical usage, accommodating various electrical service environments in commercial buildings. Bunn commercial coffee makers are constructed to withstand voltage spikes. Their appliance portability, component certifications, material flame ratings, and power cord types differ from residential units. However, Bunn coffee makers designated for home use are available.
