Very nice camp and trail knife for the little price. Carbon steel blades are the best! I bought three and made sheaths for them for some great Christmas presents for brothers-in law.

Great knife at a great price

This pattern knife has been made since the 1830's and stood the test of time. Great knife for camp, processing game and fish. Holds a good edge. I had one for years and it disappeared, so, I recently purchased a 2nd one. It still has same great qualities of one I bought back in 1970's.

Nice traditional carbon steel knife

If you want a traditional wood handled paring knife this is a great one. Remember, this is a carbon steel knife, and it will rust. You must hand wash and dry. If you don't want to do that buy a stainless-steel knife. It comes sharp and holds its edge well and is easy to sharpen. Highly recommended.

Great Knife for the price

Having always used 8-inch chef's knives I decided to try a 10 inch for large hard veggies. At first the larger knife seemed awkward, but I soon adjusted and prefer it to an 8-inch chef's knife. Sharp right out of box. A really great value for price. Far better than anything you will find in most retail stores. Really shines on large hard veggies but works well for cutting smaller delicate veggies too. Highly recommended.

I'd buy the knife again...but return it if rusted

I really like the knife ...but none too happy about the amount of RUST it had upon arrival.

Truly great knife with some work

The blade finish is great and needs nothing. The handle wood is fantastic but the proportions feel off. The handle is wider than it is tall. This makes it awkward to hold. after some time sanding down the handle scales this has become one of the greatest steak knives I have ever owned.

I bought this knife as part of a travel set I'm putting together. I need a wider blade on my Chef's knives due to mobility issues in my index finger and this knife works for me. Comfortable handle and it arrived sharp and ready to use.

I've been butchering for over 40 years and run my own custom cut butcher shop. I cut basically all domestic meat and in the fall butcher a few deer and elk. These knives are the best. The fit my hands like a knife is supposed to, come out of the box extremely sharp, maintain their edge really well and are easy to resharpen when needed.

I would definitely buy this knife again

The first one I brought, I used for skinning blow fish and fileting fish. It was assume at that function. I know, it's a bread knife. I then brought another for cutting bread and found it to be great. I've subsequently purchased and gave them as gifts to friends. Fileting fish or bread knife :-)

Great knife

I had one of these knives for roughly 30 years. I lost it in a house fire and went looking for a replacement. I found a larger, thicker version from Katom, and could not find a closer match, so I ordered it. The knife came quickly and was as represented. But what I really wanted -- but could not find -- was this knife. I finally came across it on this website, and ordered it immediately. This is a great knife for general kitchen use. It does everything well, and it is my go-to for everyday use. The other knife will have its uses, and I am happy to have it. But this is the knife I love. My daily driver

Love this knife, but you have to invest the time to figure out how to use it. Its not a normal knife, and that is why its great. You can basically used a modified pinch grip on the handle close to the blade end and control it enough to fine dice, you can also move your hand to the far end and swing it to cleave light bones (ie when breaking down lambs). I also prefer sharpening it to stainless. You will not get something better for the price.

Durable, well made, for safety

I have a drawer full of knives, and a knife guard will protect and preserve the knife edge, as well as my fingers. It looks great, too. Indispensable !!

Handiest tool in rack

This little turner gets used for almost everything from stir frying, flipping an egg, cutting cookie bars, etc. The rounded corners don't dig into pans and allows easy sliding. The stainless material is easy to clean and helps prevent sticking. Throw it in the dish washer or hand wash. Just the handiest tool and first to be picked up unless a larger tool required. I have bought to give to all 7 grandchildren now setting up their own kitchens. A second one would be handy to have at times. Have had one around now almost 20 years with daily use.

Interesting blade shaoe

Dexter Russell seems to make 3 models in this exact blade style: a stainless steel one with white, plastic handle, a Green River version with Carbon Steel blade and, in my opinion, a funky rectangular handle, which is way too short for my hands, and this version, also with a carbon steel blade. I picked this one because it came with a great wooden handle (as you can see in the picture. The handle was unfinished so I sanded it a bit, stained it and finished it with linseed oil. The knife is intended primarily for medium size game, though it makes a great kitchen knife as well. Even though I am not a bushcrafter, and would never submit this blade to a bushcraft torture test, I did make some feathersticks and spear ends which the knife handled with ease. An all around great, general utility knife!

The next Legacy Kitchen Tool ?

This could easily be passed down to the next generation of family chefs--in-training. Like Granny's brown baked bean pot, Dad's spring pan for his cheese cakes, or Great Great Grandad's left-handed mustache cup&saucer. Well made. Comfortable heft. Reversable, replaceable, cutting heads. And as advertised, 3 or 4 passes, almost any cutlery in your arsenal becomes factory fresh. Truly a galley basic must-have. Even has a special hole for peg hanging, always at the ready, reminding all that sharp knives are safe knives. Endorsed.

I use it as it's meant to be - sticking to bleed out for butchering. Nothing can beat it , only compare. I have used to many years. It was passed done to me after my dad passed away. It will be past to my son as well.

Rust after 1 week of use

This knife rust after one week of use, never hapened to any other knives in my restaurant, total junk. Katom doesn't replace it neither offer a refund. Disappointed

Great knife, great price.

These are truly a bargain for today's hunter on a budget. Quality American made knife for under 12 bucks. It feels very good in my hand. Takes a real nice edge. Three brass rivets for extra durability. Full tang. Blade is approx .090 thick which I feel is about perfect for my needs. I like the classy touch of the scored walnut handles, typical on a hunting knife from a 100 years ago. I bought two, just in case I should lose one.

sad, decline in quality

I've enjoyed Russell knives for decades. bought this one for my son and was disappointed to see the wood to tang fit was poor with a very large gap at the front. the top of the tang was sloppily ground too. I can't recommend Russell knives anymore.

I have purchased this knife again and again

I purchased this fish knife many years ago and found myself using it not only for fish but in the kitchen at the hunting camp. The carbon blade is very easy to sharpen pulling it three times through the v sharpener. The blade does stain with that is not a problem at all for me.. it surpasses my friends high-dollar knives while processing several deer.. definitely the best bang for the buck and then more..

Great knife for the price

I was looking for an inexpensive, well-made knife for cutting Fiberglas duct liner. This is working great.

No gimmicks, you do not have to spend a lot for pro quality

This 8" chef knife is a beauty. I was surprised in the value and performance it has over a popular one I have used costing 3 times more. It has a full tang with walnut handle and brass rivets. The wide strong hollow ground carbon steel blade gives you a very sharp long leading edge that holds it's edge. No gimmicks, just timeless good old made in USA quality. I like the feel off the real wood and shape of the handle with the blade balancing perfectly. I recommend a few drops of warm cooking oil on the wood handle every year or so.

I would be this product again for sure !

We bought three of these shucking knives and gave two away as gifts. The recipients loved the knives and ours worked like a charm. If you like shucking your own oysters this knife is a key tool. We live on the Gulf Coast, so we will be using ours a lot.

Very Nice Cleaver

This was a gift and the recipient liked it very much. There was a small flaw in the blade of the cleaver, but it did not affect the use so we decided not to return it.
