Decanters, Carafes, & Pitchers
Each of these serving pieces is better suited for serving certain drinks than others. Decanters are typically uninsulated, have open tops or loose-fitting lids, and are made of glass, making them good for serving coffee and keeping it warm on electric warmers. Carafes are most commonly made of metal and plastic. They're enclosed and often insulated to keep hot drinks hot without the need for an external heat source, protecting the flavor. Pitchers are designed to hold and serve cold drinks. Some include specialized spouts to help servers control how much ice they pour.
