Air can pass through the shelves' slotted structures and surround stored contents to improve air circulation, which is necessary for perishables. As air moves freely, it minimizes moisture and dust buildup that could impact storage quality. These corrosion-resistant polypropylene shelves are impervious to damage from moisture, harsh chemicals, and saltwater, and a Camguard® antimicrobial agent slows fungal and bacterial growth between regular cleanings. To keep the shelves clean, operators can wipe them down or remove them for thorough dishmachine washing. Each shelf can hold 800 pounds, though the unit shouldn't be loaded with more than 2,000 pounds total.

The Cambro CPU245464V5480 starter shelving unit can be stored in temperatures between -36 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit for use in standard commercial storage spaces, such as walk-in coolers or freezers, dishrooms, pantries, and loading docks. Like the shelves, the unit's steel posts and traverses have rust- and corrosion-resistant polypropylene coatings to withstand use in humid environments. To assemble this 54-inch-wide by 24-inch-deep by 64-inch-high unit quickly, two preassembled post kits with molded-in dovetails are included so operators don't have to fasten the dovetails in the field, which is required with Cambro's Basics Plus and Elements series. Adjustable traverses also come with this shelving system so operators have the necessary components for setup.
