Thanks to All Things Green
Many restaurant equipment manufacturers are now producing appliances of all sorts that are eco-friendly. Energy Star has been a contributing factor in this movement, and KaTom is a proud partner of Energy Star because we know our friends in the food service industry have a dedication to the environment.
Eco-friendly products do not have to stop at appliances. Any chef’s cookware, bakeware, and smallwares should be as “green” as the equipment they are cooking with. KaTom offers a variety of environmentally friendly brands ready to help your establishment get a little greener.
Here’s a look at two different brands KaTom carries that are dedicated to mother Earth and are doing their parts to help make the world cleaner and greener.
John Boos & Co
"John Boos & Co is firmly committed to managing environmental matters as an integral part of our business practice. It is our policy to ensure the environmental integrity and consideration of our processes and facilities at all times."John Boos & Co has demonstrated great concern for the environment by using sustainable forestry resources for their products and a great active recycling program.
John Boos & Co uses 95% of all raw materials, scrap and sawdust to fuel their kilns. This saves on waste production and energy.
As far as chemicals go, John Boos & Co is trying to keep our air, water, and land clean. They use only formaldehyde free formulas in the gluing process of their butcher blocks and cutting boards.
This revolutionary manufacturer states, “We maintain a high standard of recognition in treating our environment with respect while manufacturing our product.”
KaTom agrees
Anchor Hocking
"Environmental integrity matters to you and here at Anchor Hocking we are proud to say it means just as much to us."Anchor Hocking produces glass that is 100% recyclable and 100% lead free. That means all of your Anchor glassware doesn’t have to end up in a landfill, and raw materials used to make that glass are being saved.
In addition, Anchor Hocking reuses the leftover pieces of glass from manufacturing as a heat source to make more glass instead of throwing those leftovers (called “cullet”) away. This reduces trash in landfills and saves energy.
To promote innovation, Anchor instituted a Corporate Responsibility Program that constantly explores ideas about waste and pollution reduction.
Anchor has stated that their switch to eco-friendliness is a “corporate wide commitment.” They are determined to find the best possible circumstances under which to manufacture making them an easy choice for you, the consumer.
Anchor’s website page entitled “Green Efforts” ends by reminding the consumer that Anchor needs the help of consumers. Anchor Hocking says, “Without the help of you choosing the recycling bin or compost pile, our efforts are lost.”
And they make a valid point. Manufacturers can only provide the opportunity to make an environmentally conscious decision. The consumer must then fulfill their “end of the bargain” by recycling and only buying eco-friendly products.
We want to know how you stay eco-friendly in your restaurant or home. Leave us your comments and opinions.
