The Comark PDT300 waterproof pocket thermometer is great for use in humid kitchens. It reads temperatures in the range of -58 to 302 degrees Fahrenheit and is accurate within 2 degrees. This thermometer can be calibrated in the field, its stem is 3 inches long, and it turns off automatically to save battery life.

I bought it again
I've had this exact thermometer for 8 years before I crushed it by accident. changed the battery twice in that time. Every time I checked it for calibration, it was fine. I made fun of the OFF sign always on when not in use, but it lasted longer than expected. I used it five days a week and decided it was good enough to gift it so i bought extras.
Needs calibration
As others have stated why display the word off it just drains battery. Today I changed the battery and now the display reads -43.2 C in my living room. When I touch the probe end thinking my body temp would raise the temp the temp drops to -45.6 C
That's definitely an unexpected result, though the hard reset caused by removing the power source can cause issues with many electronic devices. Please follow the steps below from Comark to recalibrate and reach out to our Customer Care Department at 1-800-541-8683 if you need further assistance. Field Calibration Procedures 1. The PDT300 is only calibratable in a slush ice solution (60% crushed ice and 40% tap water) or a water bath. Do not attempt to calibrate in any other manner 2. Immerse the stem of the thermometer to at least 1/2 length in the slush ice solution 3. Wait for the reading to become stable (usually ±2° of 32°F or ±1° of 0°C) 4. Press and hold the D-H button for 8 seconds to begin calibration 5. CAL will be displayed for two seconds and calibration at 32°F/0°C is completed 6. Remove the thermometer from the ice water and continue to take measurements
Battery Failure
I need to change battery and compartment doesn't open. I've tried in different ways. FRUSTRATING
We're sorry to hear about this issue. The instructions from Comark recommend using the edge of a coin to open the case for battery replacement. If you tried that to no avail (and it sounds like you've been thorough in your attempts), please reach out to our Customer Care Department at 1-800-541-8683 to give us a chance to try to help you. Also, just so you're prepared when you finally get into the thermometer, you'll need an AB13/LR44 battery.
Drains Battery
Bought this for my daughter to use. Display shows off indefinitely when off and drains battery in two days.

Comark PDT300
We have been using these for years. It seems the quality has declined in the past year. We have a high number of failures; probes coming out, poor battery life, total failures. Unfortunately the Comark PDT300 is what we have approved for our manufacturing facility and to change requires a "Process Change Request", submitted it triplicate,followed by weeks/months of testing to confirm a new process.
