Super Bowl Appetizers for the Carnivorous
In our “Healthy Super Bowl Appetizers” blog, we featured appetizers for the vegetarian or health conscious, but if you are in search of recipes that are a little more traditional for the Super Bowl, here are some recipes to get your taste buds going.
Spicy Buffalo Meatballs
This twist on traditional meatballs is the perfect mixture of beef and spice. Plus, it's super easy to prepare
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup dry breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup chopped onions
- ¼ cup milk
- 1teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¾ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2-3 tbsp hot or buffalo sauce
- Ranch dressing
- Blue Cheese dressing
- Celery sticks
Combine ground beef, egg, milk, onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, large bowl. Shape into 1 ½ inch meatballs. In a large skillet add oil and gently cook meatballs over medium-high heat. Cook until browned. Set aside.
Combine hot sauce, butter, and honey in large bowl. Add meatballs and toss to coat. Serve with ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, and celery.
Creamy Bacon Dip
This is another incredibly simple dish that football fans everywhere will eat up.
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- 16 ounces Daisy Brand Sour Cream
- 3 ounces bacon bits
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup chopped green onion
Bring cream cheese to room temperature. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Place in 1-quart baking dish. Cover. Heat 25-30 minutes or until hot. Serve with assorted fresh vegetables, bread, crackers and/or chips. Makes 3 cups.
*Serving option: Dip may also be placed in hollowed round sourdough loaf, wrapped in foil and heated in a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.
