Kimmie's Blog: Back to Baking
Lately, I haven't had much time to do any baking, which is a little depressing for me, because that's one of my favorite things to do. But I also realized, that I never posted pictures of the cakes I did before I got into my "no-baking" slump. So I am now posting them for you.
I'm going to start setting aside time in my day just to bake. I find it kind of bad that I have to make a schedule for it, but at least I know I'll get around to doing it. I also think I might stray from just baking cakes and decorating them. I would like to try my hand at lobster tail pastries (not actual lobster tails), eclairs, danishes....etc. I would like to be a pro one day, so I have to broaden my horizon, right? I can't just keep making cakes. But believe me, I'll still be making cakes because that's the best part.
The camouflage cake was made for a friend whose Dad was celebrating his 40th birthday. She told me he loves, so what's better than a camouflage cake? This was actually the easiest cake I've ever made. The cake itself was a classic white, with whipped cream filling.
The cake with the cocoa powder dusted over the top was one of the cakes I brought into work. Just one I made so I could experiment with a new type of icing I made. this cake also gave me a chance to see how well I could make gum paste flowers. I like the flowers I made, I think they came out nice, but it is definitely obvious I have a lot of work to do. The cake itself was one layer of chocolate and one layer of white cake with vanilla icing.
And the last cake, the motorcycle cake was for my step dad's 50th birthday. He's a big fan of motorcycles and racing, so I thought this cake would definitely suit him. (I did not make the motorcycle, that is a toy) He really liked his cake and I was so happy, because I was up all night rolling out that fondant! The cake inside was a German chocolate with white chocolate buttercream icing.I have a long way to go before I'm known as a "great" cake decorator, but I will be known as that one day, I don't care how long it takes me! (Well hopefully it's not too long, I'm kind of impatient haha)
