Domino's New and Improved Pizza

Domino's Pizza

Last month Domino’s announced that it was reconstructing its core pizza recipe. This came about after much criticism regarding the overall flavor of their pizzas. This was not a small overhaul; Domino’s changed everything, from the crust up. The key changes, according to Domino’s, are to the crust, the sauce, and the cheese. The crust is now a garlic seasoned crust with parsley baked to a golden brown. The sauce is sweeter, has a bolder tomato sauce with a medley of herbs and a red pepper kick. The cheese is now 100% real mozzarella and flavored with just a hint of provolone.

I would like to say, first of all, I’m a huge fan of pizza, but the biggest turn-off with pizza, for me, is a sweet pizza sauce. Domino’s has great pizza, in my opinion, but I’ve never been a fan of their sauce because of the sweetness. I was a little disappointed when I saw that one of the changes they were making to their sauce was to make it sweeter. The red pepper kick is enticing though. I have no reservations about the changes to the cheese, although I’m a little curious as to what it has changed from? I am crossing my fingers because I would really like Domino’s to hit the nail on the head with these changes, I will find out here very shortly.

In an effort to give Domino’s another chance we ordered a couple pizzas for lunch; to test drive their new recipe. They look delicious and smell just as delightful. I have to admit, Domino’s gets an overall thumbs up from the KaTom staff. I am not sure if Domino’s misspoke about their new sauce, or if my memory fails me about the old, but it does not taste sweet. It could be a combination of their new herb mix and red pepper flavor, but it works. The crust wasn’t awful, although it’s not exactly what I was expecting. The cheese, well, like I mentioned earlier, I don’t know what their old cheese was, but I didn’t hate the cheese to begin with so I would consider this a lateral move. It’s neither a step up or down.

Congratulations Domino’s on a job well done. We voiced our opinions and it’s nice to know they didn’t fall on deaf ears. Your “new and improved” pizza holds true to its promise. Hopefully all the people that were not fans of Domino’s before this makeover are open minded enough to try it again; we are sure they will not be disappointed.
