The top shelf can support 400 pounds, and though each lower shelf is built to hold 600 pounds, this unit should only be loaded with 1,800 pounds to prevent structural damage. Each shelf is made of durable, corrosion-resistant polypropylene, which is made with Camguard® antimicrobial agent that hinders bacterial and fungal spread that otherwise could form stains or odors. To maintain clean surfaces, the shelves can be wiped clean and washed in a dishmachine.

To speed up assembly, the Cambro CBU246084S4580 starter shelving unit includes eight traverses, four bags of eight dovetails, and preassembled post connectors and wedges.
