Better than average
I bought these to replace consumer-type tongs that have been falling apart. The consumer tongs hinge is a small metal pin that is not "captured" at either end outside of the tong. When it fails, it can drop into the food being served, which then must be wasted. The pin in the Katom tongs is flattened on both ends outside of the tong sheet metal. It appears that will prevent the pin from falling out, and reduce or eliminate the risk of contaminating the food with a metal pin or spring. I'm pleased with that. My only complaint is that the edges of the tong sheet metal, particulately around the scalloped end that grasps the food, are quite sharp. The manufacturer should run the stamped parts through a vibratory polisher or over a wheel of some sort to knock down the sharp edges left after stamping the tongs.
I would buy this product again
I bought a pair a few years ago from a different company and liked the quality. When I went back to get more all they had were foreign made products. A big plus for Edlund is they are made in the USA. I try to buy American made products when ever possible.
