What is a Springform Pan?

Eliminating risks associated with removing cakes from traditional pans, springform cake pans are round cake pans that feature a removable base and sides. An interlocking band holds the sides together and can be opened and removed after baking to leave the cake on its base. These commercial kitchen staples can produce intact cheesecakes, ice cream cakes, tarts, and more.

How to Use a Springform Pan

  1. Reduce the chance of leakage by checking that the sides and bottom securely fit together.
  2. Shut the clamps.
  3. Fill the pan with ingredients.
  4. Bake the dish to completion.
  5. Let the product cool.
  6. If you're using a nonstick pan, loosen the edges around the sides with a rubber spatula or scraper. A butter knife is suitable for pans that aren't nonstick.
  7. Unhinge the clasp.
  8. Remove the sides.

How to Prevent Springform Pan Leaks

The downside to the springform cake pan's break-apart design is that it makes the cookware prone to leaks. However, it's possible to reduce leaking or even eliminate it altogether:

  • Only use springform pans for bakes with thick batters.
  • Invest in a high-quality pan that inhibits leaks.
  • Wrap the exterior with foil and slow cooker liners if using a water bath.
  • Line the interior and base with parchment paper.
