Scotsman Prodigy Plus and Prodigy Elite Ice Machines

Scotsman: What to Know About Prodigy Plus, ELITE

Scotsman has more than 60 years of experience manufacturing ice makers for the foodservice and hospitality industries, healthcare sector, and other commercial markets; the brand never stops improving its commercial ice machine technology to offer efficient, sanitary, and high-performing equipment.

That means the operator-focused and energy-efficient designs that have long formed the basis of the Scotsman Prodigy ice machine series have once again been improved. As of April 2023, the next evolution of the Prodigy series – replacing Prodigy Plus ice makers with Prodigy ELITE ice makers – has begun rolling out, starting with cubers.

Scotsman Prodigy Series Offers Efficiency, Sanitation

Prodigy Plus ice makers, a version of Scotsman's Prodigy machines that launched in 2015, will gradually be transitioned to the Prodigy ELITE models. Until then, however, the Prodigy ELITE series will only include cubers, with the Prodigy Plus series continuing to apply to flakers and nugget machines. Below, you can learn more about the features first introduced in the Prodigy Plus series, then see what's new and improved with Prodigy ELITE models.

The Scotsman Auto Alert System informs you of service issues in advance. It has four simple LED symbols that indicate power, ice making and water status, and when it's time to clean and descale the unit. Following their lead should significantly lower your chances of being left stranded without ice.

Scotsman's optional Smart-Board™ module includes NAFEM data protocol and a USB connection for monitoring and recording advanced diagnostic data. That information includes everything from average harvest time to ice bin levels, helping service personnel diagnose and repair issues correctly the first time.

These machines' components are easy to access, with a self-aligning front panel that can be quickly removed for painless service calls. Scanning the QR code located on the exterior of the machine gives the operator access to machine-specific information, including operator manuals and warranty information. An internal diagnostic code display helps technicians diagnose issues quickly, so they can get your ice machine back up and running more quickly.

Scotsman's Prodigy Plus ice machines also include AquaArmor™, which uses the antimicrobial compound AgION to slow the growth of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. This ensures you receive the purest ice possible – ice that is consistently crystal clear, crisp, and fresh tasting.

The patented harvest assist technology on these ice makers speeds up production times and reduces wear and tear on other components, extending the life of the equipment. WaterSense purge control automatically flushes mineral buildup periodically to maintain clear, fresh ice and protect the ice maker's components from damage. Another optional feature, the Vari-Smart™ ice level sensor allows operators to program your business's exact ice requirements as far as seven days in advance, so you're never left with a wasteful surplus.

The air filters in a cuber are located in the front of the unit and easily removed, rinsed, and reused for no-excuses preventive maintenance. Cuber models also offer a one-touch cleaning cycle that cuts down on the amount of time your staff has to spend manually cleaning the machine.

What's New with Prodigy ELITE?

Scotsman's Prodigy ELITE ice makers offer enhanced versions of the technology available in Prodigy Plus units, as well as some new features that make use, maintenance, and cleaning easier than ever before. One of those features is Bluetooth connectivity and the debut of ICELINQ®, a mobile app that's compatible with every unit. Together, these features enable operators to access the machine's settings, receive guided cleaning instructions, review diagnostics in real time, and instantly see information on their specific unit.

In addition to the ICELINQ app, the Prodigy ELITE machines have been redesigned with upgraded ice thickness and water sensors that are longer lasting and easier to clean. The bracket for the ice thickness sensor is now located above the ice maker's splash line, which greatly reduces scale buildup, and the WaterSense component no longer needs to be disassembled to be cleaned.

Operators relying on these models will also benefit from preservation mode, which maximizes uptime by making them immediately aware of potential issues with freezing or harvest functions and continuing to create ice based on timers instead of sensors. In others words, Scotsman Prodigy ELITE models make it even easier to ensure your business never runs out of ice.
