Vollrath 5314 Description

The Vollrath 5314 Wear-Ever® half-size sheet pan, also called a jelly roll pan, is made out of heavy-duty 13-gauge aluminum that is impact-resistant and does not warp. The rim has an open-bead design, meaning it is not curled all the way under, making all parts of the pan easy to keep clean. This pan is stackable thanks to its tapered sides, which are 1 inch high to help contain liquids. The bottom of the pan is concave when cool, but flattens when heated to help ensure even heat distribution.

Great product and great customer service

Already had 2 of these pans and decided to buy 2 more to replace some non-stick pans I had. One arrived badly scratched on the baking surface. I called KaTom and they replaced the pan without any hassle. Now that's good customer service. I also purchased some 1/4 and 1/8 size pans. Love all the Vollrath pans and the baking results when I use them.

Thick, heavy, indestructible, cooks perfectly.

Sharp Edges on the Rolled Stainless

It's true. They arrived with very sharp edges. It's a manufacturing issue. Plan on 60 seconds of light work with emery cloth or a sanding sponge to knock the edges off but then you will have a heavy-duty commercial grade pan that will last a lifetime. It was easier than returning them and it's otherwise exactly what I've been looking for.

****WATCH YOUR FINGERS ****

I have yet to actually bake with it, but the rolled edges on the pan were razor sharp. I noticed before handling it (thank you, earlier reviewers) and yet still cut myself in the process of separating it from the other pan I ordered, the Chicago Metallic 30850 Baking Sheet / Bun Pan. While that one is 18 ga instead of the 13 ga of this product, the design and finish of the Chicago product is superior. The Vollrath looked like it was packed straight off the machine that punched its shape, with absolutely no finishing at all. It took 20 minutes of filing with a metal file to render the product safe to use. It took 8 days to heal my thumb!

What I wanted, finally!

These 13 GAUGE pans are what everyone is looking for. I have tried the non-stick style and always had mixed results with the coating wearing out or getting scratched until the pans are useless. I have used these several times and they take no more care than any type of non stick pan. They are very thick and the heat bakes much more evenly, for more perfect and consistent looking products, like cookies. Buy quality and American made, and be happy with these. Some claim they will not warp, I have not had a warp issue yet, but I do not believe any pan is above that, by nature. I am sure over time they will get a patina, but then you do not have to worry about scrubbing on them. The nonstick pans I have now have degraded and they have a baked on patina that just cannot be removed without ruining the finish, so in the long term, there is no difference except the quality of the finished baked goods. Price is worth it for years of good use.

Meatloaf the Performer Sang "2 out of 3

Meatloaf the Performer Sang "2 out of 3 Ain't Bad" I purchased 3 of these Vollrath 5314 sheet pans. Meatloaf should have sung 2 out of 3 Are Bad. I inspected the items which appeared to be good because there was no shipping damage. I excitedly baked with it. The first pan I used warped significantly to the point of a one use throw away product. Worried about the other two sheets, I proceeded to bake again with the second sheet and was pleased that the product performed perfectly as one would expect. I then baked with the third sheet to determine if just the first sheet was defective. This sheet also warped after one use. I would not purchase this product and never anything from KaTom who refuses to stand by their products that have been "used". I wonder what powers I would need to know if an unused product would be defective by sight alone. Maybe I needed Johnny Carson's Tonight Show Carnac the Magnificent character to put the sheet to my head and say, Answer: "Defective Product with No Returns". Question: How Does KaTom stand by their slogan "It's About You".

Great pan

These are the pans recommended by Cooks Illustrated and at the best price I found. I have had some for several years and bought more to gift to my kids. These pans do not warp in the oven, even on high heat.

A Perfect Gift

Searched quite a bit for these pans which were recommended by America's Test Kitchen. Happy to find them. I sent them as a gift to a guy who likes to bake bread in his home kitchen. The price was good and the service most efficient.

As excellent as advertised

These won Best Cookie Sheet in Cook's Illustrated and they are definitely the best I've ever used. Very sturdy and they make perfect cookies every time. I recommend using parchment paper for easy cleanup.

The Best Sheet Pan

I purchased these pans to replace old baking sheet pans. I had heard about this specific pan being strong, sturdy and large enough to handle big quantities. I love them (I bought 4)! I like that they don't warp when put in a hot oven, and clean up easily. They are larger than regular pans designed for home use, as they are restaurant-quality. I highly recommend these for anyone who cooks.

Sturdy sheet pan

I wanted a really sturdy sheet pan because my old one buckled under high heat. America's Test Kitchen rated this as the best, as a kitchen "must have." So far I am very happy with its performance, including browning under the broiler. It does, however, discolor a bit with repeated uses and cleaning, not the bright silver, but dull and bronzish. Aside from that, I'd recommend it.

A Staple in my home kitchen for decades!

I've used the Lincoln-Wearever 5303 pans since 1977 (Wear-Ever stamped dates on all their sheet pans). Practically nothing goes in my ovens without being on one of these and I have hardly ever needed to clean my ovens over those years. These have been my "go-to" sheets for cookies, roasted vegetables, broiling cheese toppings (on a wire rack), holding baking dishes, prep work, even finding something big enough to "rest" the turkey on, you name it. They're a little stained and one got dented, but they are still used every day. In 3/2009 (stamped on the back) I treated myself to some new pans and got the Lincoln-Wearever 5314 as a heavier-gauge pan that was top-rated by CI. It is an even more wonderful pan and worth the slightly higher initial investment, but I do have to note, having bought a couple more since the sale of Lincoln-Wearever to Vollrath, that these Vollrath ones DO have a rather sharp "raw" edge to the bottom of the rollout on the sides and that rollout is slightly shorter and a little more irregular than the originals. Nevertheless, three of these with some parchment paper and #40 and #50 dishers (for cookies) have become my standard bridal/kitchen shower and/or housewarming gift---always well-received and I'll bet they are still being used in 30 years. You CANNOT beat Katom's price which allows me to be able to give a wonderful gift.

Kitchen Workhorse

I already own one of these and needed a second. This baking sheet is recommended by America's Test Kitchen, a very reliable source of reviews. It's cheap, has excellent quality and works great. It's one of the most-used items in my home kitchen, and I gave it a good workout over the holidays. If you don't own one I'd recommend getting 2 of them. This one's a no-brainer.

Vollrath Sheet Pan17-3/4" x 12-7/8" x 1"

Both pans I ordered were warped, one being VERY warped. They were shipped in a box and there wasn't any damage to the box. Vollrath needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. I do NOT appreciate paying full price, high or low, for a defective, flimsy product. If your name is associated with quality, and Vollrath has a lot of quality products, then be CONSISTENT with that quality or take the product off the market and re-engineer. Noticed others had this problem, WARPED, as well. Need to listen, Vollrath!
