Common Questions About Groen Tilt Skillets

What control options are available for Groen braising pans?

All Groen tilt skillets have controls on the right side of the pan that are tilted forward for visibility and convenience. These controls are electronic, but they are available in classic and advanced configurations.

Classic controls are the more economical choice between the two because of their power switch and temperature knob. Since the power switch lights up, you can clearly see when the skillet is operating. Users can precisely set the temperature on the knob with no setup or programming required, and an indicator light turns on when the Groen 40-gallon tilt skillet is heating.

Advanced controls have the same lighted power switch and temperature knob, but a digital readout and four buttons add more options than the classic controls. When the temperature knob is turned, the temperature displays on the digital screen as opposed to a dial on the classic controls. You can also set up low and high temperature presets for your most popular dishes. This control system has a timer that ranges from 1 minute to 10 hours, enabling you to monitor recipes, and an audible alarm alerts you to prevent overcooking when the time expires.

How do Groen braising pans tilt?

Groen tilting skillets can have manual or power-tilt mechanisms. Manual mechanisms are more economical than power tilting, but they can be jerky, increasing sudden stops and starts that result in splashing and spilling. Power mechanisms reduce strain when tilting the unit and minimize product loss.

Units with manual tilting have a handwheel that rotates clockwise to tilt the body and counterclockwise to raise it back to its horizontal position. In 23 turns, the handwheel tilts the body from a 90-degree angle to a vertical orientation.

Groen's power mechanism tilts the pan at the flip of a switch, as the "up" position raises the pan, while the "down" position lowers it. When you release the switch, it returns to the middle in an "off" position. Because power mechanisms operate with electrical components, they pose a larger risk of malfunctions than manual units. If a Groen tilting braising pan has an issue with the power tilt, you can troubleshoot it and tilt the body by hand in the meantime.

What makes Groen Eclipse braising pans durable?

Groen braising pans have heavy-duty, one-piece stainless steel bodies that are welded to increase strength at their joints. All the exposed areas on these units are also made of stainless steel, so they can be cleaned easily. Because the cooking surface plate is made of heavy material and measures 5⁄8 inch thick, it distributes heat evenly without warping as it repeatedly heats up and cools down. To prevent damage from splashing liquids, the controls and tilt mechanism are mounted in a water-resistant stainless steel housing.
