Choosing Your Cambro Camrack

A Guide to Buying Cambro Camracks

Cambro understands the importance of an efficient, well-stocked warewashing workflow. Any dishroom needs equipment and supplies that are simple to use while still protecting kitchenware from damage and breakage. Cambro Camracks® are designed to meet the needs of foodservice operations across the industry with options specialized for washing and storing dinnerware, glassware, and other essentials. Camracks stand out with their unique construction, with models particularly suited for different kinds of kitchenware, and their ability to be securely stacked for safe, sanitary storage.

What are Cambro Camracks?

Cambro manufactures Camrack dishwasher rack models to suit a multitude of supplies, keeping everything safe and secure during the dishwashing process. This is accomplished with specialized Camracks which have pegs for upright dishes, compartments for glasses and flatware, or open base designs for pots and pans. Simply load your dishes or flatware into the Camrack unit, then load the unit into your dishwasher for a thorough, even clean. Cambro designs these polypropylene warewashing racks to be highly durable, able to withstand the high temperatures and chemical detergents used in commercial dishwashers.

Camracks can also be used to store your dishes and flatware. The racks are designed to stack securely on top of one another, and the closed sides prevent any touching or contamination until the clean supplies are ready to be used again. This enclosed design also protects fragile glasses and dishware from breakage. Handles molded into the sides of the Camracks make them easy to lift for stacking or transport. Units are available in a range of different colors to create a color-coded organization system that helps you keep track of what is stored where.

How to Choose Your Camracks

Chances are, your commercial foodservice operation will have dinnerware, glassware, and other supplies that need to be washed. Camracks come in plenty of different configurations to suit various needs, but it still might seem confusing at first to try and choose which size or style is best, especially for newer operators. Learn more about the different types of Camracks below.

  • Glass racks hold tumblers and stemware in compartments that allow thorough cleaning inside and outside of the glass; these open compartments ensure proper drying after the Camrack leaves the dishwasher. Glass racks come in half and full sizes.

  • Cup racks, similar to glass racks, have an additional tilt feature which prevents water from sitting on the bases of mugs during and after washing. This eliminates some risk of water spots or mildew forming.

  • Flatware racks, also available in full and half sizes, feature a flat grid bottom for comprehensive washing and drying. Cambro also sells eight-compartment flatware baskets, which are available with and without handles, and fit neatly inside base Camracks.

  • Base racks feature an open construction that can hold larger dishes, pots and pans, and other sizable serveware for thorough washing. The lack of pegs or small compartments makes them highly versatile.

  • Peg and tray racks are designed to efficiently hold plates, platters, and trays. They are very popular in buffet-style establishments, hotels, and cafeterias, but any operation which uses a lot of flat dinnerware can benefit from this model. These trays come in two sizes – 9x9 or 5x9 – and there is also an option for an open end tray rack.

Operator Tip

Purchase a different color of Camrack for each type of tableware (i.e. stemware, plates, flatware, etc.) to create a color-coded organization system.

Once you decide on the types of Camracks you need, the Cambro glass rack calculator can help you determine the size and number of Camrack units you'll need to accommodate your supply of kitchenware. This can take some of the guesswork out of purchasing and help prevent returns or multiple orders.

Camrack Accessories and Features

There are a few accessories and options available to make Cambro Camracks even more useful.

  • Camrack covers snap onto the top of any full-size rack to keep out contaminants while storing clean dishes. Put a cover over a single rack or on the top of an organized stack.

  • With a Camdolly®, transportation of stacked Camracks is safe and easy. These dollies can support up to 350 pounds, depending on which model you choose, and are designed to resist corrosion and denting even with heavy use. Cambro also manufactures large utility carts made of durable, stain-resistant plastic, which can carry up to 500 pounds.

  • The IceExpress Water Glass Filler attaches to the top of a full-size 25-compartment Camrack and allows quick filling of glasses with ice to reduce serving and set-up times at banquets, catered events, or bars. These glass fillers prevent breakage and contamination with minimal glassware contact.

  • ID clips can be purchased to label each rack, allowing operators to keep their wares organized and maintain inventory without having to remove the Camrack covers or dismantle stacked racks. The clips easily slide into molded slots on the sides of the racks and are made of ABS plastic, safe to be put through a commercial dishwasher. ID clips come in 34 pre-printed options, as well as a blank label for custom categorization.

  • Cambro also offers hot stamping customization for any Camrack. Put your establishment's logo, content symbols, or standard information on your dishwasher racks, available to be printed in red, white, or blue text.

  • Camracks are available in multiple different colors, from soft gray and beige to more eye-catching shades of red, blue, and green to help you easily identify racks in a color-coded system.
