Its interior is accessible for stocking or product retrieval through a flip-up door on the top and drop door on the front, both of which are fitted with standard door locks to prevent tampering. White laminated vinyl makes up the exterior, as the interior is lined with clear-coated aluminum, and the cabinet is insulated throughout with foamed-in-place polyurethane.

Product stored and displayed in the True TMC-49-HC milk cooler is held between 33 and 38 degrees Fahrenheit, while the temperature is set by operators and monitored on an exterior temperature display. The forced-air refrigeration system is self-contained and uses a capillary tube system with R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant. Evaporator and condenser fan motors are electronically commutated to move a consistent volume of air, while the condensing unit slides out to simplify cleaning and maintenance.

To maintain a clean condensing coil over time, this unit condensing fan motor blows in a reverse direction for 20 seconds when the compressor starts up. This mechanism helps remove buildup of debris, dust, and dirt, which assists with more efficient operation. Preventive maintenance should still be carried out on the coil to ensure it's working properly over time.
