To operate the unit, users must place the bar into the base, move the can against the bar, and lift the handle to the up position. A swift downward movement is required to punch the blade into the can lid, and to engage the gear drive, operators should lower the handle 90 degrees to the down position. Rotating the handle in a clockwise direction opens the can, and raising the handle to the up position disengages the gear drive. To raise the bar and release the blade from the can, the handle must be lifted. Because can contents are capable of spilling, users should be careful when moving it away from the bar.
