The kettle body has a jacket around the lower two-thirds, and when the pre-filled water is heated, it boils and forms steam that expands into the jacket, enabling heat distribution that is more uniform than stockpot ranges. Operators can adjust the temperature using the control knob, which has 10 increment marks showing the available heat levels. The thermostat regulates the heat, turning it on or off to get the current internal temperature to match the set level.

Users tilt cooked contents out by turning the manual hand crank, which provides more control over the tilt motion than a hand lever. When the kettle body is tilted, the pour spout directs food into pans up to 4 inches deep, which fit under the rim—reinforced to resist dents that could alter the steam pressure level.
