"I have sold kitchen cutlery and knives, collected knives, and of course sharpened knives with just about every sharpening system one can imagine. Ceramic rods are really the way to go! Nothing I have found puts a finer edge on a knife and does it with just a few light stokes. This sharpener has the perfect combination of coarseness levels for every degree of dullness. No doubt unless one drops the unit or strikes the rods they will last at least a lifetime even with daily use. I also like that the rods clean quickly with nothing but soap and water and one never needs messy honing oil. The only drawback I can see is the rod diameter might prevent sharpening close to the tang of very small knives if they have very thick handles."
