Bus cart shelves are each designed to hold bus tubs, so the number of tubs you'll need to move at any given time will dictate how many shelves you need. There are two types: Fixed shelves are permanently set on the frame, so they can't be adjusted. For customizing your cart, something you might need to do if you'll be moving items of different heights, consider one with adjustable shelves.

Type

An enclosed cart is covered on two or three sides with panels. These panels serve two purposes: to conceal the contents of the cart from your customers, preventing it from becoming an eyesore, and to help keep the contents from sliding off while they're being transported. You can select from a variety of finishes so your cart will match the décor of your dining room. Open carts might be a little easier for staff to use because they can be accessed from all sides. You must be careful not to overfill open bussing carts, since there are no sides to keep things contained.

Material

Metal carts are rugged and have a sleek, clean look that makes them good for more elegant operations. The metal is found in the frame, so some of these carts also have wood panels and other decorative touches. The downside to metal carts is that they tend to become noisy as they age, which could add an unpleasant distraction to your dining room's atmosphere.

Polymer carts have the advantage of being quieter than metal carts. They also tend to be more affordable and, because they're made of relatively soft materials, safer to use in a busy restaurant where they run the risk of being bumped by customers coming and going.

Design

Bus carts with tub slides are designed to accept standard 20 x 30 inch bins. Their simple, lightweight design might be preferred if it's only bus pans you need to transport.

A bus cart with shelves provides versatility for transporting things other than bus bins.

Specialty Options

  • Marine edges are designed to contain spills. This can keep any liquid off the ground to help maintain a sanitary, safe environment for guests and staff.
  • Deeper than standard shelves, recessed shelves are a good solution when transporting loose items that need to be kept secure and safe from falling off.
  • Receptacle hangers let you hang tubs on the outside of the cart for separating things like waste and silverware from dishes.
