Butcher Cases: What You Need to Know

Meat display cases help drive sales while keeping your products safe. Meat displays combine the functions of a meat cooler and product merchandiser into one efficient piece of equipment. Choosing the right meat cases can save you money on utilities, increase product sales, and ensure the safety of your product. With both self-serve and full-service meat cases available, our selection of equipment ensures every operator can find the perfect piece for their needs.

Selling fresh, raw meat can be a tricky business because the product must be kept cold throughout the process. Significant fluctuations in temperature can lead to meat being thrown out, which is wasted money, time, and potential. Our meat displays are made to minimize the total wasted product by protecting the meat and cheese from temperature fluctuations, dripping moisture, and mechanical malfunction. We also have a variety of external materials and colors available, so your new piece fits in with your existing aesthetic.

Common Questions About Meat Display Cases

Should I get a self-serve or full-service meat case?

Both self-serve and full-service meat cases can be useful to your establishment, but depending on what type of business you run, one may be preferable to the other. The first decision point is simple: Will you have someone available to tend a full-service meat display case? If someone will be near enough to tend to customers when they approach the meat case, a full-service option could work. If the counter is set on its own, you'll need to opt for a self-serve meat case.

Self-service options are beneficial because you don't have to allocate labor to them, but they are less efficient at maintaining temperature, which means they cost more in utilities than comparable full-service units. Self-serve meat displays don't have an enclosed front, so cold air escapes quickly. Therefore, the unit's compressor has to work hard to keep the temperature where it should be, costing you more in utilities than a fully enclosed case.

What is a remote-compressor meat case?

Some of our meat display cases are intended to be connected to a remote compressor system. With a remote compressor, the process of removing heat from coolant will be done at a distant part of your establishment, usually on the roof or on an external wall. These systems keep the noise and heat of a refrigeration exhaust system far from the pleasant shopping area you've created for your customers. However, they are more expensive and difficult to install because they require piping and cords to be run from the refrigerating unit to the remote compressor. Compressor units can be used for multiple refrigeration stations, so if you have a remote compressor already installed, it can be cost effective to expand that system. Double check the product specifications page to ensure the meat display case you're considering has a compressor system that fits your establishment.
