ADA Water Fountains for Public Facilities

ADA-compliant water fountains can be added to community centers, universities, offices, and other public spaces to provide all visitors and employees with clean drinking water. For an ADA drinking fountain to be considered accessible, it must be installed at a height that enables a wheelchair user to easily utilize the bubbler and push buttons. A smooth panel covering the interior of the unit prevents the machine's components from hindering wheelchair users during use, and the controls can be operated with a single hand.

Some ADA-compliant drinking fountains are bi-level, meaning they have two drinking stations. In this setup, one spout will be positioned higher than the other and not meet ADA requirements, while an additional spout located closer to the ground would meet the height requirements for accessibility. While some ADA water fountains may be rated for both indoor and outdoor applications, others are designed for either indoor or outdoor use.
