Since its founding in 1969, this company has had an obsession with attention to detail. Their products include features to improve efficiency and increase longevity, including their own Kolpak 120 refrigeration system that can operate accurately in ambient conditions as hot as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. You can order a custom spec box to fit your establishment's specific needs, or you can select a pre-engineered, ready-to-ship unit. For in-depth information about finding the right walk-in, see our Learning Center article on choosing the right Kolpak walk-in cooler or freezer.
Choose a Polar-Pak if you need a simple box with basic features, or if you need a box that will ship quickly. If you have specific requirements or dimensions, or have a list of special features in mind, opt for a custom model.
Polar-Pak Models
Polar-Pak is a series of pre-engineered, ready-to-ship coolers and freezers. These ship knocked-down with the walls, corners, and door easily assembled onto the unit's floor, while the ceiling panels lift into place. Their air-cooled, expansion valve refrigeration systems are top-mounted and sit flush to the interior of the unit to maximize the usable interior space. These come pre-charged and ready to plug in as soon as they're mounted.
These models are available in 6-foot, 6-inch or 7-foot, 6-inch tall models. A variety of widths and depths are available from 4 feet up to 12 feet. They're made with rugged, steel exteriors, which are coated with an aluminum/zinc alloy for durability and resistance to corrosion. They also include aluminum floors and 26-inch wide door openings. For energy efficiency, they're insulated with 4-inch thick, foamed-in-place polyurethane.

The four most important parts of a walk-in are the walls, floors, doors, and refrigeration system. Kolpak is known for their innovative features in each of these areas. Of these four parts, the walls have the most surface area, so they must be well-insulated to keep heat from penetrating. These boxes are insulated with 100% foamed-in-place polyurethane, which is reliable, efficient, and can stand up to the elements if installed outdoors.
Doors and Floors
The two most abused parts of a walk-in are the doors and the floor, so those parts must be especially durable. Kolpak's standard floors can hold up to 700 pounds per square foot. If you plan on bringing heavy carts into your unit, you should choose a floor reinforced with wood, which can support 2,000 pounds per square foot, or a metal-reinforced floor, which can support up to 5,000 pounds per square foot.
The door jambs on these units are four inches thick and are made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. This material prevents condensation, which can damage your door. The doors have a strong, ergonomically-designed handle that is designed to ensure a tight and complete closure. Their cam-lift hinges have few moving parts, making them more reliable, and they close automatically up to 120 degrees. For ease of use, they stay open if they're opened wider.
