Fryer baskets are a crucial component of restaurants churning out fried food, as they're designed to make the process quicker and easier. To withstand the high temperatures necessary for deep frying, a fry basket is usually made of durable steel wire, with some models also featuring a protective coating of nickel or chrome. Many frying baskets come with a coated handle for a firmer grip and protection against heat. Models with a front hook can be mounted above the fryer after use, where they drain excess oil back into the machine.

A standard deep fry basket is the most common size, with most deep fryers accommodating two standard fryer baskets per frypot. For cooking oversized foods or large batches, a full-size basket can fill up a frypot. A third-size deep frying basket is perfect for making small batches of sides, appetizers, and specialty menu items.

Deep fryer baskets are most commonly rectangular and designed to fit the length of a standard frypot, but circular baskets can also be purchased. Any basket shape or size reduces the amount of sediment that falls into the bottom of the fryer, limiting the burnt, unpleasant flavor that comes with it. When food is finished cooking, the fryer basket is lifted out of the unit and flipped to quickly dump the food on a waiting plate or warming station.
