Sized for merchandising in convenience and grocery stores, the True TOAM-36-HC~TSL01 vertical open-air cooler is 36 inches wide, 29 7⁄8 inches deep, and 78 1⁄2 inches tall. The exterior is black powder-coated steel—a material and finish that provides the unit with durability and resistance to corrosion while blending in with other equipment. In contrast to the black exterior, the interior is constructed of white aluminum and features stainless steel deck pans and floor. The cantilever shelves are sturdy and can hold a large amount of product, and to accommodate the products being sold, these shelves are adjustable. Designed to illuminate product on each shelf, the cooler's interior is lit by LED lights mounted on the underside of each shelf, increasing visual appeal to potential customers.

The open-air design of the True TOAM-36-HC~TSL01 display cooler allows customers to quickly select which drink, snack, or premade meal they want while keeping contents cold with a circulating curtain of cold air. The air curtain can be interrupted by too much outside air flow, such as a frequently opened door, a vent, or a fan. It also should not be kept in direct sunlight because the heat from the sun will counteract the cooling air curtain. The refrigeration system is self-contained and uses the eco-friendly R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant. Its condenser is mounted on the bottom of the unit for convenient maintenance access.
