Portion Control Food Scale

These provide easy-to-read measurements and enable precision, sometimes down to the hundredth.

Digital portion scales are easy to read, more precise than dial scales, and electronically controlled, with labeled buttons or touch screens that make zeroing and taring simple. Digital portion control scales are usually offered as a combined scale and display but may be designed with the scale and readout as two separate pieces. Those pieces can be joined via a wired or wireless connection, allowing operators to mount the digital screen on the wall or counter above or beside the scale platform. Dial scales require no power source, are more cost-effective than digital scales, and often have a higher weight capacity than digital scales; however, not all dial scales have a tare option.

Most portion scale platforms are flat or bowl shaped. Flat platforms can accommodate many kinds of food and products, while bowl shaped scales easily accommodate fruit, chopped foods, or small foods like rice and grains. Flat platform sizes range from 412 by 4 inches to 17 by 13 inches. Some portion control food sales have special platforms designed to hold specifically shaped foods such as fries, tacos, or ice cream cones, which can be useful in niche concepts.
