Depending on the space, different shapes and sizes of restaurant dining tables have varying benefits. Establishments like bars or event venues may want to consider bar height tables, which tend to be smaller and are designed to accommodate a few patrons as they enjoy drinks or small dishes. A larger commercial dining table can accommodate bigger groups of people in restaurants or banquet halls.

Table tops come in a variety of materials, some of which may be better suited to specific operations.

  • Granite and quartz are both highly durable and attractive. Granite is hard to chip or scratch and is heat resistant, while quartz is more vulnerable to heat damage. Quartz is still easy to maintain as long as care is taken to limit heat exposure.
  • Melamine and laminate table tops are both made from bonded layers of material – typically over a plastic or particle board base. Melamine is a type of resin, though it's less durable than pure resin tabletops. Resin can be designed to imitate the look of other materials like granite, quartz, or wood.
  • Laminate is resistant to staining and easy to clean; however, the surface can be damaged by scratches and high heat, so some users prefer a more durable surface for restaurant dining room tables.
  • Metal is most commonly used for outdoor restaurant dining tables. Metal table tops are resistant to rust and can be patterned with an open grid to prevent spills or precipitation from collecting.
  • Wood table tops, an appealing material for some high-end establishments, generally require high maintenance in order to keep them looking their best.

Restaurant dining tables are available with square, rectangular, and round tops. Square and rectangular tables are space savers and can be combined to accommodate larger groups, while round tables encourage socialization among guests. Table tops are supported by pedestal bases or legs –typically made of cast iron or steel. Disc and square table bases are easier to clean around than T-style bases, while T-style bases allow chairs to be pushed in completely.
