Made to chop thick, starchy vegetables, the Wusthof 4182-7 Classic 5-inch hollow-edge Santoku knife uses a thin blade and straight edge for efficient cutting. Small, evenly spaced, vertical indentions line the blade's surface to create air pockets, preventing foods from sticking on the knife after being cut. This improves chopping time because users exert less effort removing starchy foods from the knife after chopping. Forged from a blank of high-carbon stainless steel to resist rust and maintain a sharp edge over time, the knife has a full tang for balanced cutting. The tang fits between the polyoxymethylene handle, which has a curved design for a secure grip. Three rivets attach the handle to the tang to avoid slippage or breaks. The handle's molecular structure fights off discoloration and fading to maintain a presentable look in the kitchen. Fingers are protected during chopping because the full bolster acts as a shield. The knife's blade ensures precise cutting because it is cut and measured with lasers and sharpened with whetstone.
