Wire shelving is essential to the organization and storage of products in any foodservice business. Shelving can be used nearly anywhere in a foodservice business, from the display floor to refrigerators and coolers to any back-of-the-house operation. All of the wire shelving offered through KaTom are produced by our trusted manufacturers Metro Foodservice and Focus Foodservice.

Types of Wire Shelving

KaTom offers wire shelving in four different types: precombined kits, shelves, posts & frames, and accessories. Precombined wire shelving kits offers complete shelving units in popular sizes and  preconfigured designs. These complete precombined units are ready to assemble and hold any of your foodservice items.

Shelves can be purchased individually to create maximum storage for your products. When you purchase shelves individually, and not in a kit, you can create your own shelving design and eliminate unused space.  These are also great for replacement of shelves for existing shelving units.

Posts & frames can be purchased separate from shelves to allow you to design your own shelving unit or replace a bent or rusted pole. Posts and frames can be designed to hold as little or as much product as you deem necessary.

Accessories can be purchased for wire shelving as well, such as sleeves, casters, inlays, donut bumpers, leveling feet, post clamps, shelf dividers, extended handles, connectors, and security feet.

Wire Shelving Construction

Wire shelving can either be chrome coated or epoxy coated. Chrome coated shelves are ideal for display and dry storage purposes. Chrome coated shelves can support up to 800 lbs of evenly distributed weight. These shelves have an open wire design that minimizes the amount of dirt and dust on the shelving unit and promotes air circulation.

Epoxy coated wire shelving is green and can be used in both dry and wet storage areas, such as in a refrigerator or freezer. These heavy duty steel shelves have a zinc plated undercoating. The green epoxy ensures a long lasting performance and can hold up to 800 lbs of evenly distributed weight. The open wire design minimizes the amount of dirt and dust on the shelves and creates maximum air circulation over the products. These green epoxy coated shelves have a 12 year warranty against naturally occurring rust.

Wire Shelving Dimensions

Wire shelving precombined kits and shelves come in a variety of different sizes which can fit nearly anywhere in your business. Precombined wire shelving kits can range in size from 10 1/2" H x 14 3/4" W x 17 1/2" D up to 74" H x 48" W x 18" D.

Individual shelves can range in size from 24" W x 14" D up to a large 60" W x 24" D.

Styles of Wire Shelving

Wire shelving is available in three different styles, either plain shelving, wine shelving, or dunnage shelving. Plain shelving is designed for general storage purposes. Plain shelving can hold nearly any reasonably weighted item and is ideal if you plan to store various items on the shelving.

Wine shelves are designed to hold wine and/or kegs. Wine shelves are great for holding wine or kegs at your foodservice business, as a display to allow customers to self serve, or even in your home as a display/holding station for your wine.

Dunnage shelves were created to hold bulky items, such as sacks of flour or rice. These dunnage racks are made with tube and wire overlays. These heavy steel shelves have an offset design to prevent snagging or tearing of the products. Metro foodservice also offers dunnage shelves made from a rust and corrosion proof polymer material.

Functions of Wire Shelving

Wire shelving kits are offered with adjustable feet for stationary applications. Open bottoms are used for mobile applications. Threaded casters are offered to convert posts with adjustable feet into mobile applications.
