Revisit

I first reviewed this product in 2014, and my opinion is unchanged. I have been using it at least once a week since then. In 2015, I think it was, I managed to drop and break it whil putting it away. It broke into two large pieces, so I decided to put it back together using JB Weld. I have been using it ever since. I've baked pizzas on it, including store bought ones whose instructions say not to use a stone, and have never been disappointed. Mostly I bake breads and some pastries on it or use it to maintain even temperatures while using the oven. It is old, stained, and well used and I would not take a new one in exchange for it.

Not what I thought I was getting

I was looking for a thicker stone than what I have for baking. The online listing made it look like a solid slab and stated 7/8" thick-at a great price. Turns out it is only 1/2in thick plus feet molded into the bottom so they must have combined the two measurement to get the 7/8 in. thickness. Katom was reluctant to let me return them but eventually let me, but I had to pay for return shipping. I'm sure it is a fine stone if you want 1/2 in. thickness.

Waiting for instructions

It's difficult to rate the product. It arrived broken in two pieces. I communicated with the company and am waiting for return instructions.

Even the THIRD pizza stone I received is cracked

I'm only giving one star because you can't send a review with NO stars. I just received the THIRD pizza stone from American Metalcraft (PS1416). The first was a second, the second came with the corner broken off. The third HAS A CRACK, true a small one, but I am concerned that when I heat it to 500 degrees it will split!! What's with these people and their packaging. The second and third problems seem to be absolutely attributable to their packing. I'm heating it up today, and if it splits you will hear from me. Maybe a little crack (which I have photographed) doesn't matter.

solid stone

I've used this stone for making pizzas on several occasions. I haven't gotten into making bread with it yet. Seems like a good stone, very thick, so I'm expecting a longer life out of it. There was a little bit of a learning curve when using this on the grill. It takes a good 40 minutes to heat up fully (in contrast with a thin stone at 15 minutes). I spent some time cleaning it due to this miscalculation.

Excellent choice!

I bake a variety of breads, at least once a week, and the occasional pizza. I plan to build a clay oven on my farm, but have used this stone since February 2010 as a 'stop gap' Not sure that the clay oven could do any better! A very reliable stone. Yes, it does stain a bit but as another reviewer said it does not affect performance, and one can always clean it up a bit with sanding paper is desired. I have already recommended it to friends.

Excellent stone for Pizza and Breads

This is an excellent stone for pizza, I put it in the oven at 450F for 20 minutes to preheat. The stone is excellent, I wouldn't use anything thinner -- the thicker stones are definitely very durable, I have broken thinner ones frequently. Don't worry about staining during use it doesn't affect the performance -- overall A+ product.
