Scotsman Countertop Ice and Water Dispensers: What You Need to Know

Whether you need to offer ice to hotel guests or add it to a self-serve drink station in a fast-casual restaurant, Scotsman ice dispensers are the perfect solution. Scotsman countertop ice dispensers work well in restaurants, breakrooms, and healthcare settings.

Dispensers including an ice maker can produce between 260 and 924 pounds of ice in a 24-hour period. Freestanding dispensers can measure as much as 30 inches wide and deep and can stand about 7 feet high when paired with an ice machine. Countertop machines have a smaller footprint, typically closer to 2 feet wide and deep and about 3 feet high.

Common Questions About Scotsman Ice Dispensers

Should I choose a manual-fill ice dispenser?

A manual-fill dispenser doesn't make ice; it only stores and dispenses it. Whether you choose a bucket-fill dispenser may depend on your level of use, space restraints, and ease of access for employees. If a large volume of customers needs instant access to ice or it isn't feasible for employees to consistently refill the bin, a machine that makes ice may be ideal. A manually filled machine will alleviate space constraints and eliminate noise, but water-cooled machines offer an alternative for operations with the capability to support them. Air-cooled and remote-cooled units may represent an alternate solution.

What types of ice do these units dispense?

These machines dispense nugget ice, full-cube ice, or half-cube ice. Units that include an ice maker will dispense only one set type of ice, while other dispensers may offer users a choice of what type of ice to load in the storage bin.

What dispensing styles are available?

These machines dispense ice using one of the following options:

  • Levers that dispense ice when the user pushes against them with a cup or bucket are found on traditional countertop ice dispensers.
  • Infrared sensors that trigger ice to dispense when a container is placed in front of them are found on Scotsman touch-free ice machines. These machines may also offer the option for touch-button use.
  • Chutes that dispense ice when they are pressed are commonly found on hotel ice machines and are ideal for filling buckets.

What types of Scotsman ice dispensers are available?

  • Hotel dispenser: These freestanding machines store between 120 and 200 pounds of ice and are designed for use in hotels – specifically to fill small buckets that guests then take to their rooms. Scotsman offers its iceValet® dispenser line with the option for manual filling or pairing with Prodigy Plus® ice makers mounted on the top. Some models also include the option to dispense water.
  • Countertop ice and water dispensers: The Scotsman Meridian series includes machines that dispense water and cube or nugget-style ice when triggered by a sensor. These Scotsman touch-free ice machines work well in breakroom and healthcare environments. They store 12, 25, or 40 pounds of ice, and an Agion® antimicrobial coating is included to keep the ice bin clean.
  • Countertop ice dispensers: Scotsman countertop ice dispensers in the ID series can be used as bin-fill machines or coupled with an ice maker. They can be used with cube or nugget ice, and their storage capacity ranges from 150 to 250 pounds. They are 22 or 30 inches wide and 35.63 inches high without an ice maker mounted on top.
