Commercial upright freezers are often found in restaurants, hotel kitchens, and other establishments which regularly produce large volumes of food. Fresh ingredients and finished products that must be kept frozen are often stored in these units. A reach-in freezer often features doors on one side of the unit, and depending on the model's configuration, the unit may include features that impact its application in an operation. For example, a roll-in freezer enables staff to easily roll in large pan racks for high volumes of frozen food and pass-thru models include doors on the front and back of the unit. All reach-in freezer styles can range from small and compact to multi-section models with large interior capacities for the biggest establishments.

Aside from the freezer's configuration, there are options for door styles. Most commercial stand-up freezers include solid doors, which best keep temperatures steady inside the unit. However, models with glass doors – which are ideal for enabling staff to quickly inventory contents or for merchandising frozen products to customers – are also available. Models may have anywhere from one to six doors, depending on the number of sections and the style of doors, and those doors may be left or right hinged.

As with other refrigeration equipment, units are available with a compressor located either on the top or bottom of the unit, and some offer remote compression for a quieter, cooler kitchen environment. Most reach-in freezers are made of stainless steel and aluminum, making them resistant to rust, corrosion, and damage, even in high-traffic areas. Some models include additional features such as interior LED lighting, electronic controls, and casters for easy mobility. In addition to choosing a reach-in freezer with the right features and door style, operators will want to consider the unit's internal components and materials. A commercial upright freezer for sale at KaTom will be rated as good, better, best, or spec depending on factors such as price point, performance, and materials, with spec series units indicating top-of-the-line options.
