Common Questions About Fineline Settings
What is bagasse and how is it eco-friendly?
Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcane and/or sorghum are crushed to extract their juices, and Fineline Settings uses this to create hardened paper material for its Conserveware line of disposable dinnerware. Because bagasse is a byproduct of the production of sugar and other goods, using it does not create nearly the same waste footprint as other types of material. Bagasse is biodegradable, so it does not clog up landfills or end up polluting the ocean the way plastic disposables will.
Perhaps the biggest criticism of disposable dinnerware is the wasted material and pollution that can come with throwing dirty dishes in the trash rather than reusing them. With bagasse-based products, operators don't have to worry about their discarded goods washing up on beaches or harming marine wildlife. There are still production costs and pollution to consider, but compared to less biodegradable disposables, bagasse is quite a green product.
What types of Fineline containers are available?
Fineline offers several sizes and shapes of disposable hinged containers, from small single compartment containers to larger, full-meal containers. They are made from eco-friendly bagasse and are a part of Fineline's Conserveware series, so you can serve your guests with earth-conscious disposables. All our Fineline containers are square with their different sizes listed on the product description page. Consider the goods you'll be serving in these containers, whether you need to keep types of food separate, and the total quantity of food you'll be serving most often. These containers are great to use on food trucks and other mobile establishments, or as to-go or take out containers for traditional establishments.
Does Fineline make plates with compartments?
Fineline plates come in round and oval shapes and with or without compartments. In buffet or potluck style settings, having compartments to keep food separate enables the flavor of each carefully prepared dish to remain unadulterated throughout the meal. Compartments do slightly reduce the overall food capacity of your plates, though, so if you plan on serving large quantities, ensure the plates you purchase are large enough for your needs.
What other products does Fineline offer?
Fineline produces a wide range of disposable dinnerware, including disposable bowls, lids, and small portion cups for condiments, samples, or appetizers. When purchasing lids for disposable bowls, ensure you have the matching sizes. These lids are made of plastic and are not the same environmentally conscious grade as the rest of the Conserveware line. However, operators are unlikely to need the lids for bowls at the same frequency they might use hinged containers or plates, so the environmental footprint is not as prominent with the lids.
