Bar Maid Cleaners: What You Need to Know

Bar Maid cleaners, glass washers, liquor pourers, and other accessories are all designed to make barkeeping a little bit easier. Bar Maid has been in the bar cleaning business since 1961, when it introduced the original Bar Maid glass washer. Since then, it has taken the experience gained in the industry to solve a wide variety of bar-related problems, such as profit loss from overpouring, losses due to glass breakage, effective cleaning solutions, and even dealing with fruit flies.

Bar Maid makes cleaning chemicals, testing strips, fly traps, detergent, keg rollers, and even juicers. Whatever equipment you need to manage a commercial bar, you can find it from a company you trust with Bar Maid. We'll go over the different pieces and answer common questions below to help you choose the right pieces for your needs.

Common Questions About Bar Maid

What is Bar Maid Fly-Bye™?

The Bar Maid Fly-Bye is a drain insert that prevents flies, roaches, and airborne pathogens from returning up the drain. If you've noticed tiny fruit flies in and around your bar, they could well be breeding in the drains, feeding off food particles that rest in the bends of the pipes. Beyond fruit flies, though, all manner of other unpleasantness can come back up the drains unless you invest in a Fly-Bye to stop it. These pieces block sewer gases, aerosolized pathogens, pests, and backsplash from returning to your sink or floor drain after you've washed it away.

Fly-Bye is designed to ensure you don't lose any flow rate, meaning your sink won't back up because of the new drain system. Installation is also simple and can usually be accomplished in a few minutes.

Fly-Bye will stop insects and odors from returning up the drain, but if you have a major plumbing issue, it won't prevent flooding. The drain valve is not intended as a precautionary measure against plumbing failure.

Why would I want a liquor pourer?

When dispensing expensive liquors, your bartender needs to be accurate. Pour too little and your customers may feel cheated and not return; pour too much and your establishment will be cheated out of profit. Bar Maid liquor pourers help the operator distribute an exact amount of liquor for each beverage without slowing down the serving process too much. These pourers screw into your liquor bottles, so all you have to do is grab and pour.

What is a Bar Maid glass washer?

Bar Maid glass washers were the first product that Bar Maid brought to the market, and they're still popular almost 50 years later. The glass washer is a set of upright glass brushes, either stationary or attached to a motor to spin. These brushes will remove debris from the inside of a glass and help you provide sparkling glassware to your guests. The manual options can be suction mounted on the inside of your sink, so the worker can place a glass on the brush and spin it to remove debris. A Bar Maid glass washer is particularly useful in high-volume bars because it enables the operator to keep up with demand without sacrificing cleaning the inside of a glass. Washing the inside of a glass by hand risks shattering it as most glassware isn't made to withstand pressure from that direction, but the glass washer will scrub gently from the inside.
