Commercial kitchens utilize 3-compartment sinks for an important purpose: ensuring back-of-house staff can effectively clean and sanitize items for their next service rotation. These are commonly installed in small foodservice concepts that rely solely on manual dishwashing as well as in high-volume operations that use them during peak hours or to handle more delicate supplies. When purchasing a three-compartment sink for your commercial kitchen or dishroom, you'll need to consider a few criteria to find the right configuration for your space.

  • Stainless Steel Gauge: A stainless steel 3-compartment sink may be made of 14-, 16-, 18-, or 20-gauge stainless steel – the lower the number, the thicker the material.
  • Overall Length: The length of a commercial triple sink depends on the size of the sink bowls and whether the unit includes any drainboards. The shortest 3-compartment sinks are a few feet long, but models with large sinks and two drainboards may be 12 feet or longer.
  • Bowl Size: Length, width, and depth determine bowl size. The length and width measurements for a three-compartment sink bowl may be between 10 and 30 inches, and the most common depths are 10, 12, and 14 inches.
  • Drainboard Location: A 3-bay sink may have a drainboard on the left of the sinks, on the right of the sinks, or on both sides of the sinks. Most 3-compartment sinks have at least one drainboard, but some models are available without them.
  • Faucet Mount: Although some models offer deck-mounted faucets, the majority of faucets on a 3-compartment sink are splash mounted. Not all units include a faucet, so be sure to check the product details to know if you are purchasing a 3-compartment sink with a faucet or with only faucet holes.
