Reach-In Freezers Buyers Guide

Commercial Reach-In Freezers are just as important to your commercial kitchen as reach in refrigerators because of the abundant storage space they provide. The reach-in freezers offered at KaTom Restaurant Supply come in either 1 section freezers, 2 section freezers, or 3 section freezers and are offered from either True, Beverage Air and our other premier manufacturers. Regardless of which brand you choose, virtually all reach-in freezers have capacities between 19 - 72 cubic feet and will maintain temperatures between 0° Fahrenheit and -10° Fahrenheit. Like reach-in refrigerators, freezers are available with hinged doors and are NSF approved to hold prepackaged and open food items safely. All freezers feature three shelves per sections; therefore the number of shelves in your freezer will depend solely upon the number of doors on your unit. A 1 section reach-in freezer will have three shelves, a 2 section reach-in freezer will have six shelves, and a 3 section reach-in freezer will have 9 shelves.

Reach-in freezers are available in either top or bottom mounted units. Top mounted units offer more refrigerated storage space than bottom mounted units due to the refrigeration system being located on the top. Top mounted units also tend to run cooler because the ventilation from the compressor is located on the top of the unit. These units will keep your kitchen cooler as well because the hot air will rise to the top of the room where the refrigeration system is located.

Bottom mounted units offer easier access to the products inside by bringing them higher up and eliminate the need to stoop down to reach or bend down for the product.  Bottom mounted units also have the added benefit of non-refrigerated storage on top of the freezer because there is no refrigeration system located there.

Reach-in freezers have a more powerful refrigeration unit than reach-in refrigerators because they need to remain much cooler than the refrigerator units. Nearly all freezers are insulated with 2-3" of high quality insulation. Freezers are equipped with large fans and bafflers to create high velocity air movement in order to maintain the cold temperatures throughout the unit.

True brand reach-in freezers are constructed of mostly 300 series stainless steel on the exterior with a large, easy to read exterior digital temperature monitor. The doors come standard with magnetic door gaskets and locks, as well as recessed door handles that offer a lifetime guarantee. True reach-in freezers use an environmentally friendly refrigerant and CFC free insulation.

Beverage-Air reach-in freezers feature stainless steel doors and grills with steel and gray finished sides. The top, back, and bottom of these units are made from durable galvanized steel. The exterior of these freezers also feature an easy to read mounted thermometer. The interior of Beverage-Air reach-in freezers are white-coated steel. Electric heated defrosting is standard on all Beverage-Air models.
