Chef Hats
The traditional chef's hat, or toque blanche, is the most recognizable component of the chef's uniform. Chef hats are said to date back to the 16th century when chefs were often persecuted for their freethinking so they hid out in the Orthodox Church. Disguised as priests, they wore the same tall hats. Priests wore black, chefs wore gray. In the mid-1800s chef Marie-Antoine Careme redesigned the uniforms to white to denote cleanliness in the kitchen. Get your chef hat at KaTom Restaurant Supply!
