1-compartment Sinks

A 1-compartment sink is a versatile piece of equipment that can be put to multiple uses in a commercial kitchen. The designated use of a single compartment sink is largely dependent on the size of the sink as well as the existing layout of your kitchen and the equipment it already features. Smaller one-compartment sinks are best for tasks like handwashing, while larger ones with drainboards can be put to more labor-intensive tasks, such as food prep or dish soaking. However, it's important that the single compartment sink only be dedicated to a specific task.

Although most health departments require sinks with multiple compartments to wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, single compartment sinks can serve as a dish soaking station before being sent through a commercial dishwasher. One-compartment sinks are also ideal for prepping and washing produce, especially if a garbage disposal is installed to help dispose of scraps and other waste.

1-compartment sinks vary in size, with sink bowl lengths ranging from 9 to 36 inches, widths from 18 to 28 inches, and depths from 4 to 14 inches. Drainboards are optional but can be located on the left, right, or both sides to assist with drying. Sinks are constructed of 14-, 16-, 18-, or 20-gauge stainless steel, and faucets can be mounted on either the deck of the sink or the backsplash for more room. Depending on the intended function of the sink, backsplashes can be as tall as 11 inches to protect surrounding surfaces.
