Cupcakes: All the Rage

Cupcake TowerAs we all know, cupcakeries have become all the rage in the United States. It seems there is a new cupcake place in nearly every town, with more springing up at a rapid pace. And now, it seems the cupcake fad is spreading to nearly everywhere in the world, including the Middle East where a new bakery has opened by the name of Sugar Daddy’s, which sells American-style cupcakes in an area that is new to this type of treat.

People in the Middle East seem to be taking quickly to the concept of cupcakes, although there seemed to be some initial confusion between these delicious baked treats and muffins. Even the royal family seems to enjoy these baked goods, as they come in to order boxes of cupcakes at a time, according to an article by The New York Times. Sugar Daddy’s also sells other American style treats such as cheesecake & brownies. These cupcakes and other baked goods sell for around $2, which is somewhat pricey for the area, therefore making these seem more like a luxury item to most.

In addition to the array of American-style treats, Sugar Daddy’s also caters to the local tastes, with items such as the Ramadan cupcake in flavors like pistachio with orange-blossom frosting.

Cupcakes seem to have a universal appeal, with shops taking off in numerous locations throughout the world, including the U.S., Jordan, Rome, Istanbul, Berlin, Seoul, South Korea, and Sydney, Australia.
