Improving Sales in a Down Economy
As any business owner (or consumer, or anyone for that matter) knows, people in today’s economy just aren’t spending as much as they used to. Even though people aren’t spending the same, they still expect the same comforts as they have always had, such as a great tasting meal or personal attention at their favorite restaurant. In order to help keep your restaurant (or whatever business you may have) afloat during hard times, one should make sure that regardless of the type of restaurant you have, you should treat each customer like they are a personal friend, not just someone giving money to your establishment.
Customers who would typically go to a high-end restaurant might be looking for a slightly lower end establishment in which to spend their hard earned money. If customers do begin to frequent your restaurant that generally visited higher-end establishments, you will want to offer them the same type of service they received in the restaurants they previously visited. You should always make sure your greeter or hostess pays attention to each individual customer or group as they enter the restaurant. Perhaps your employee could chat with the customers as they are waiting, asking open ended questions to find out more about their expectations and where they typically dine.
If a customer is willing to try a new restaurant, they obviously are open to the possibility of change. You can influence them to starting making your establishment the norm simply by how you treat them. The attention to detail and personal greeting will often put consumers at ease, allowing them to feel like they are in an environment they are used to. This feeling alone almost guarantees a second visit, and perhaps makes your restaurant the customers new favorite.
Granted, it may take a bit more than just personal attention and making each customer feel at home to help your business stay ahead in our economy, but this is an excellent way to start.
