Restaurant Furnishings Impact Sales

When you think of reasons that customers may or may not return to your restaurant, you may think of reasons such as food quality, promptness of service, and staff friendliness. However, there is another reason that you may not think of…the furnishings in your restaurant or establishment. These findings were reported in a recently from the Telescope National Shopper Survey, which is a national internet survey of 1500 adults that was conducted from July 10 - July 22 by WSL Strategic Retail, shopper insight strategists and futurists.
According to the TNSS survey, up to 37% of diners paid special attention to the furnishings of a restaurant and considered the condition and appearance of the establishment when deciding whether to visit there again. In times such as these, when consumers are cutting back on their spending in nearly any way possible, restaurants need to strive to create a positive atmosphere and experience for diners.
To help you make the most of your restaurant, Kathy Juckett, CEO of Telescope, offers the following tips to help encourage diners to return to eat with you again:
- Make sure your furniture is comfortable - about 70% of diners notice if it is not.
- Keep your furniture style updated - approximately 1/4 of diners will notice if it is outdated.
- Replace worn furnishings. 39% notice old and used looking furniture.
- Add a few new pieces if you cannot afford a whole new redesign. More than half of diners notice new furniture.

Having great tasting food is very important but ambiance is equally as important. Having a good atmosphere will keep patrons happy and eating. That should be the goal of every restaurant.

These are some great statistics to know. It takes a lot of different working parts to have a successful restaurant, seating and furniture is just one of the many aspects necessary. I’m a big fan of good food myself.
