I am using this dutch oven for large stews, soups and sauces. I wanted to get a large pot, but didn't want to spend a fortune. Did a lot of research and this one was a good price. This Lodge dutch oven fit the bill! Also wanted to cook without scorching foods which is a benefit of a dutch oven and this one handles cooking without scorching. The color is a nice red. Have already used it twice since getting it and have a few more meals planned. This Lodge dutch oven is great for cooking chili for a crowd and keeping it warm! Another nice feature are the rubber clips that sit on the edge of the pot that keeps the cover seated on the rim and avoids chipping; they are taken off when the pot is being used. Good idea!

No need to spend more. A great piece. 03/13/2013

I've had this now for almost a year, and I use it regularly. I bought this when I heat-damaged my Le Creuset 5-1/2-Quart Dutch Oven by unknowingly turning on a burner on my electric stove (with soup still in the pot). Hoping to salvage my Le Creuset (which I did, eventually), I bought this to use in the interim. Now, I use both with equal frequency. At 1/5th the cost of the French brand, I find the Lodge to be a much better bargain in that it cooks everything just as well AND is actually lighter in weight than its counterpart. For many people, this can be a plus, especially during cleaning. I'm not going to get into a comparison between the 2 brands; but I do want to make it clear that unless you are dead-set on having cookware that will be passed down through the generations, the Lodge makes a more economically sensible purchase. The oven cleans up very easily with just a soapy sponge, and I have no problem with cooking residue sticking to either the inside or outside. It looks as handsome on my cooktop as the other, although upon close inspection, you can see a more refined manufacture technique is used on the Le Creuset. If you think that's worth an extra 200-bucks, or you just want to say you own the Premier brand of dutch oven, go for it. Me, I just want it to cook well, look good and clean easy. Highly recommended!

Please do not over pay for Le Creuset. This lodge product is rated by consumer reports and other forums to be the same quality and after cooking in my pot, I totally agree. This is a very very large pot! Other reviews state that the handle is not ideal because you can't go over 400 degrees in the over...big deal. On the rare occasion that you need to bake that hot for that long, unscrew the darn thing. It screws right back on. Love my Lodge dutch oven!
