Its rectangular top is finished in high-pressure laminate and supported by a 3⁄4-inch high-density particle board core and a stabilizing backer sheet. The unit's offset 18-gauge steel legs improve user access, while a 1 5⁄8-inch steel apron enhances structural durability. To maintain stability during use, the frame incorporates both a knife-lock folding mechanism and an automatic lock-open system.
